Drawing inspiration from modern Electronic Dance Music as well as contemporary jazz harmony, The Beat In Progress is set at a punishing tempo to showcase the drums in a Drum'n'Bass style (An electronic music genre). Description: This chart is highly playable and very musical. There are some very approachable Gil Evans-type figures paired with a modern st 8th ballad style. The improvised solo is in the Tenor 1 part, and an important written solo on piano finishes the chart. The haunting opening gives the performers a chance to experience modern aleatoric performance. The brass parts are within a playable range, making this a great choice for many levels of groups.

Description: This chart starts out with a brass chorale and slowly builds into an exciting up-tempo swing featuring time changes and a strong melody. Soprano saxophone has an extended solo over top of the form leading into a unique and intense unison sax soli featuring two sopranos. The angular sax soli eventually gives way to a rubato piano solo. The piano then leads into a funky groove that turns out to be a highlight at the end of the piece, where bass trombones are featured in a crescendo to an exciting finish.
