Description: This piece features a strong, yet simple melody. The harmony, as well as the melody of the song, is derived equally from the realms of pop and jazz. Description: This chart is highly playable and very musical. There are some very approachable Gil Evans-type figures paired with a modern st 8th ballad style. The improvised solo is in the Tenor 1 part, and an important written solo on piano finishes the chart. The haunting opening gives the performers a chance to experience modern aleatoric performance. Description: The Dark Moon waxes and wanes very similarly to an actual lunar cycle, with cyclic figures washing in and out over melodic material throughout the piece. Extended solo space for soprano sax and guitar serves the composition as much as it features the soloists. Layers of simple melodic lines over modern harmony and sounds make this a piece any ensemble can enjoy. Great feature for a sax section that can double (alternate non-doubling parts also included). Recorded by the West Point Band's Jazz Knights on "Turning Points."

Description: "Convergence" has Bob Brookmeyer and Maria Schneider influences. It features Saxophones and Trombones on tricky melody and counter-melody lines. There are 3 main grooves through-out this chart, moving between Swing, Straight- eighth, and 12/8. It also features dense harmonies at times in the horn voicings, great for the developing college Jazz Ensemble. The solos are modal in nature, with the Soprano Sax solo being in odd meter, Trombone being in 12/8, and an open Drum solo. A challenging, but fun chart.
